These weather station networks ”“ also known as ”˜Mesonets' - provide reliable data in real-time for a range of metrics including temperature, rainfall, frost, fire danger and spray drift hazard alerts. The COtL Mesonet provide a wealth of value to agricultural communities, growers, emergency services and research and development institutes, and are fast becoming thought of as critical infrastructure.
The COtL Mesonet's key differentiator is our ability to combat agricultural spray drift ”“ an issue thought to cost the SA agricultural industry hundreds of millions of dollars each year and with a worryingly unknown impact on human health. We use cutting-edge meteorological science and sensor technology to detect hazardous inversions, and the Mesonet is truly a world-leading initiative. By the end of 2023, the Mesonet will cover over half of all of SA's agricultural regions comprised of over 110 individual 10m-tall weather stations.
